About Views and Post activity

How Aloofs counts post views, impressions and recorded interactions.

What does Views mean?

Views is the public count of accepted views of a post or reply. In the author’s Post activity, Impressions shows this same total. These are not two numbers to add together.

Updated clients count content after one continuous second with at least half its width and height visible within the usable screen. For content taller than the usable screen, half the screen height is enough. This measures exposure, not proof that someone read the entire post.

Repeated views by the same viewer of the same post count once within a rolling 24-hour period. Some deliberate interactions also count. Historical totals may use earlier counting rules.

Do I need to open a post?

No. Eligible content can count where it appears in supported feeds, profiles, search, saved posts, threads and media viewers. Hidden content and brief or interrupted exposure do not qualify. Opening the same post elsewhere does not bypass the rolling deduplication period.

Text, images, GIFs and video use the same public exposure rule. Playback starts, qualified video views and watch time are separate measurements. Image-rendered GIFs have no measured playback duration.

Who can see Post activity?

Anyone who can see a post can see its public Views count. Only its author can read its private Post activity. Available metrics are controlled by Aloofs and may change independently.

What do the activity metrics mean?

Impressions is the existing lifetime Views total. Engagements counts recorded interaction events from participating signed-in clients, including opening details, media or links, visiting the author, and using like, reply, repost, save or share controls. An event does not necessarily mean a social action was completed, and one person may create several events.

Detail expands counts recorded openings of a post’s details, including expanded text. Profile visits counts recorded visits to its author’s profile through that post. Simply seeing a post does not create either event.

Detailed interaction history may cover a shorter period than public views. Unavailable history is marked rather than shown as zero. The social-action summary shows current likes, reposts and replies; the activity report counts recorded interactions over time.

Dates, history and video

Date-range reports use UTC and reflect when activity was recorded. Lifetime Views may include activity from before detailed reporting began. Missing history is shown as unavailable, not zero. Video views and Impressions are separate measures and should not be added together.
